David & Melissa have been working together since 2012, they both share the same passion for writing and gaining inspiration. They both enjoy walks and studying the cosmos of which Carl Sagan is one of their inspirations.
Kasper: Hi David and Melissa, welcome to out FSFNet interview couch. Make yourselves comfortable, we’re looking forward to learning what makes you tick. Let’s jump right in.
Do you have a pen name and why?
David: Yes I often use “Wisewords1983” this is quite simply because I share a Wise Word or Two (our strapline) and 1983 was the year I was born.
Melissa: I don’t often use a pen name but if I had to use one, it would be White Wolf because they are truly amazing animals and they have a sense of authority.
What was the defining event that made you start writing?
The defining moment came a few months after David’s Grandmother died, where David acted upon his Grandmother’s wishes and started writing on a blog, this originally was known as Wise Words for You. Five years on and the blog (to date) has reached 90,923 worldwide and averages a readership of 3,500 per month.
They are impressive stats, guys 🙂
What other writing have you done?
David: I have published four poems, which feature in four publications and can be read at The National Library in London England
What made you choose this genre?
We chose Inspiration to inspire others to be inspiring, there is often negative things being written, with positive thinking we aim to bring a positive outlook to others and to be strong in their beliefs.
Have you used any real events or places as inspiration for your writing?
Yes, we often use the reality of everyday life whether it is in the UK or America. We go out to places and gain inspiration by looking at everyday life issues.
Do you have another job outside of writing?
David: Yes currently I work in a community radio station in West Cornwall (England) called Coast FM
What advice would you give to someone wanting to write a blog?
We would strongly suggest that you follow your dreams and never let anyone doubt your ability. Find someone who would support you and your interests. Never feel disheartened and be yourself at all times.
What song would you choose as the theme song of your blog?
Alpha by Vangelis, this is because Alpha is the beginning and the beginning was the blog
What music do you listen to when writing?
Melissa: I tend to listen to what David listens to, this is often relaxing and very calming.
David: Yes indeed what I listen to is New Age and often very little sung songs.
What do you write about in your blog?
We often write inspiring Thought of the Day, this is where we write about a subject and add a feel good to that subject, we also talk about the history of Wales (UK) this is because Wales has lots of stories to tell and not everyone knows these.
Melissa: I like eating tasteful foods from around the world, though eating can be limiting at times due to me being allergic to dairy.
David: I like eating pasta mainly as this is a good slow release of energy which allows me to think and gain inspiration.
Melissa: “Poopies” and trust me if I can explain this I would but I can’t
David: Mine has to be “Honk Honk”, I think this was because my Grandad when I was young used to “honk” my nose to cheer me up and make me giggle.
Best holiday spot:
David: I have always loved Wales in the UK, my Grandparents in 1988 moved to Wales and every summer I spent it with them. I went to places of natural history and I often gained inspiration from visiting these landmarks.
Favourite song at the moment:
David: There is no definite favourite but I tend to listen to Magnatune, they release a weekly podcast which features new and upcoming artists on different genres, my favourite being Space.
Melissa: X-Ray Vision because I like to see through objects that can’t be seen with the naked eye.
David: Mind Reading because I often read people and their perception (which often gets told to me “Stop reading me”)
Number one thing to do on your bucket list:
Melissa: To be there for my husband (David) no matter what
Kasper: Aww…you two are sweet and very inspiring. The folks here at the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network wish you all the very best for your writing.
